Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
(Matthew 13:45)
Some people are not satisfied with what they can see with their eyes and feel with their hands. They haven’t bought into the lie that this life is all there is. Being conscious of a yearning within themselves for something that’s real, they’re like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls.
Pastor Martin applies this parable by challenging sinners to be prepared to part with anything and everything that keeps them from having Christ, and by asking Christians if their estimate of Christ’s worth is ever-growing.
